Definitely when her parents nearly forced her into the service of her country as a sorcerer. It was at this unpleasant time that she met Duncan, a young officer who was assigned as a guard to her family. They were of similar age, and she often used him as an escape from her family, asking him about his past and listening to his tales of the military life.

At one point, when she thought she could bear no more of her parents’ disdain, she asked Duncan to begin teaching her about the arts of war. She knew that a sorcerous path lay before her, but she felt drawn to the simple aggressive actions of fighting a bloody battle. At first Duncan was hesitant, fearing he would be relieved of his post, but in the end she convinced him, and so began the most important relationship of her life, and a turning point in her destiny.
